Luganda

I will be typing up my language notes mpola mpola — little by little.  Special thanks to our Luganda instructor as well as the countless friends and family who helped me learn!  If you find mistakes please leave a comment!  I can’t claim to write a Luganda dictionary but I want to share what I know.

Pages to come include:

Greetings (vital to daily life)
Greetings short course:  If you only learn one word in Luganda I would recommend gyebale which essentially means “Thank you for the work that you are doing.”  I don’t know how many times I have wished we had such a word in English!!  You can use it as part of a formal greeting but it can also stand alone, such as entering a store and greeting the clerk.  I loved seeing the transformation of people’s faces when I greeted them in Luganda, even with a simple gyebale; being able to greet people made me feel so much more at ease and I think helped those I was greeting feel more comfortable with my presence too.
